Elder Prayer (6/19/22)

El Shaddai (Lord God Almighty) [Genesis 17:1], How could we ever praise You enough for the amazing victory Jesus has won for us in conquering the power of sin and death on the cross? [Romans 8:1-2]

Jehovah Sabaoth (The Lord of Hosts) [I Samuel 17:45; Isaiah 47:4], You are the God of all the angel armies, and You have won the victory! Now we are freed to be Your people in this world, eager to do what is good [Titus 2:11-14] and pleasing to You! [Hebrews 13: 16] Our sins are thrown into the sea [Micah 7:19], and removed as far as the east is from the west! [Psalm 103:12]

Who else has a God like You, El Elyon (The Most High God), [Psalm 9:2] the One who is like no other—infinite in holiness [Exodus 15:11], in pure justice, in righteousness [Psalm 33:5], and in perfection?
When we hear the taunts of the Evil One, when the world is calling out to us, drawing us away from You, and telling us that we’ll never win the battles we’re facing [I Samuel 17:8-11], what truth can we trust in with our whole hearts? [Psalm 42:10 119:42]

That Christ is LORD, that He was raised from the grave, and that He has completely beaten the Enemy! [Hebrews 7:22-25; 10:8-10]; That we are freed from enslavement to sin and freed for vibrant life [John 10:10; Galatians 5:1] by faith in the Son of God, who loved each one of us and gave Himself up for us [Galatians 2:20]. Please strengthen our faith to see You as being so much larger and so much more powerful than any giant personality or problem we face [I Samuel 17:8-11].

To whom could we turn when you have the very words of eternal life [John 6:68]? Why would we ever seek after false gods, moving these things that enthrall us onto the thrones of our hearts and displacing You [Jeremiah 18:15]?

But we confess that we have done this, and we pray for You to have mercy on us. We ask for Your Spirit to convict us of sin in our lives and to assure us of Your forgiveness when we have turned from it [I John 1:9].
What can we say today that would come even close to expressing our deep gratitude for Your mercy that You show to us every day [Lamentations 3:22-23]? You bought us out of bondage to sin and you adopted us to be Your children with all of the rights of heirs in Your Kingdom [Galatians 4:4-7; Ephesians 1:3-6] when we deserve only to be banished and cast out. You have rescued us from the dominating power of darkness and have brought us into the Kingdom of the Son You love, Jesus, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins [Colossians 1:13-14].

Why would You, a God so holy look upon Your created world with so much love and compassion, and make a way (where there would otherwise be no way) [Isaiah 43:16-19]?

Jehovah-Raah (The Lord My Shepherd) [Psalm 23:1], You know all too well how we constantly roam, falling into sin and idolatry. We think of ourselves too much and too little of You, and yet You shepherd our hearts by Your Spirit living in us, to bring us back into relationship with You!

Jesus, thank You for not only teaching us to address our Adonai (Lord, Master) [Psalm 16:2] as “our Father,” but for making the way for us to come into His most holy presence without restraint, like climbing up on the lap of a gentle, earthly dad [Romans 8:15; Galatians 4:6]. Spirit, we thank You for always encouraging us and wanting what’s best for us. Help us to boldly step out of the boat into the realm of the unknown. Father, we love You deeply and we thank You again for making us and for loving us!

Jehovah Jireh (The Lord Will Provide) [Genesis 22:14], we ask that You would strengthen the hands of our brothers and sisters at Amchit Baptist Church in Lebanon, and we ask that You would restore stability to their land. And please use the messages they are distributing on social media about important issues to penetrate hearts and to bring people together.

And we pray for Pastor Steve as he brings the message today, that you will use Your word and the words that he speaks to challenge and equip us to bring down the giants we’re facing in these days. We ask this all for Your honor so that the world may know that the battle is the Lord’s [I Samuel 17:47]! In the name of our Lord Jesus we pray. Amen!
